Cardiovascular
Department

Started in 2005, the Cardiovascular Department launched its first major clinical study in 2006. The Unit has conducted more than 35 multinational clinical studies in all areas of cardiology, including congestive heart failure, unstable angina, stable angina, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, electrophysiology, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrythmias, Type 2 diabetes mellitus acute coronary syndrome, deep vein thrombosis/ pulmonary embolism, and atrial fibrillation.

Clinical trials are conducted in conjunction with global pharmaceutical research companies, and international academic institutions. The research unit performs Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV clinical studies related to both drugs and devices.

The Cardiovascular Department was one of the main centres in India for the ‘Ischemia Trial’. The main results publication was selected by editors of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) as one of the most notable studies published in 2020. The study was one of 14 designated by the editors as being the ‘most meaningful in changing medical practice and impacting patient care in 2020’.

Ongoing studies include investigations of interventional devices for patients with coronary artery disease; new compounds for the treatment of all aspects of heart disease, including disturbances in cardiac rhythm, hypertension, acute decompensated heart failure, stable angina, Acute Coronary Syndrome with type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic heart failure, and dyslipidaemia.
