Dr. Mohan Gupte

A respected epidemiologist and recipient of the International Gandhi Award, Dr. Gupte has nearly 50 years of experience in the fields of Leprosy and Public Health. As the Founding Director of the ICMR National Institute of Epidemiology, he helped advance public health research and interventions, especially in the area of leprosy. Dr. Gupte also served as the first Chairman of the WHO Technical Advisory Group for Leprosy Elimination, where he contributed significantly to global efforts to combat and eliminate the disease. He was also the ICMR Chair (National Professor) of Epidemiology.
Prof. Gupte qualified as MD (Preventive & Social Medicine) from B. J. Medical College, University of Poona. His major research interests include epidemiology and public health clinical trials: vaccine trials, drug trials, field studies, multi-centric trials, HIV epidemiology, and epidemiology of leprosy.
Among the several national and international committees Dr. Gupte has served on are Technical Advisory Group, Leprosy, WHO; National Technical Advisory Group on Immunizations (NTAGI); and: Member of SAC WHO Collaborating Centre for Leprosy Research and Epidemiology. He has also been coordinator of several multi-centric clinical trials and vaccine trials. Prof Gupte is on the Editorial Boards of the Indian Journal of Leprosy, and the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics.
